About my journey

I created this blog as a public riding journal.  I’m the average, run-of-the-mill novice adult rider, constantly striving to improve my riding and help my mare shine.  I first met Carly as a lesson horse in May 2006, leased her for over a year, and finally bought her on January 13, 2008.  She’s an 11 year old Quarter Horse, 14.2 hands high. She was originally trained as in Western Pleasure, but her previous owners gave her away because she was kicking the crap out of their fancy Caspian horses in the pasture.  So, she was retrained as an English lesson horse, taught to jump, and then met me.  After three years of hunter jumper lessons and two years of horse ownership, I have in the words of my trainer “learned how to do nothing and can now learn to do something when riding and the return to doing nothing again”.  So Carly and I have entered into the dressage world – while keeping up with the hunter jumper ring.  Neither one of us have had any dressage training and all these new thoughts are a bit overwhelming at times, but I am excited about how this will transform the both of us!
